Love these. Nice composition, and interesting presentation by the sculptor -- one I have not seen used by any other artist. The hair originally made me think of Assyrian sculptures, but then triggered other ideas. The artist here shows each of the three powerful men as identical by: the wealth indicated by their robes; the lushness, softness, and malleable ("easily influenced") nature of the material with which the men have chosen to cover themselves; the apparent piousness indicated by their physical postures, their hands, and their facial expressions, no matter in which direction they are facing; yet each head, in total contrast, is presented in a strong, static design as to pattern and growth of the beards and hair, along with the identical crowns and how tight they are on their heads -- all representing, to me, the minds and thoughts of the men themselves. The identical effects of power, or simply the current state of mankind as a whole? I cannot tell for sure if each of their faces and heights are identical; but even if not, all in all, the artist would appear to be presenting a clear indication to Christ of what He is facing. Terry
Panabasis Photo helps me satisfy my urge to post photos - mainly my own, but the occasional vintage image from my collection, too. When I get the craving to post cat photos, I do it at The Circle Cat Club.
I post other photos, and from time to time actually have something to say, over at Panabasis.
